Major Acquisitions
Since 2010, PALFINGER has taken over four major players in the maritime business. These acquisitions were significant growth steps for PALFINGER MARINE, considerably expanding its product portfolio in the fields of boats and davits, winches, lifting and handling equipment, as well as offshore cranes.
Ned-Deck Marine
In 2010, PALFINGER took over Ned-Deck Marine B.V. (NDM), a Dutch company renowned for manufacturing rescue boat davits. NDM, headquartered in Harderwijk with an additional production facility in Vietnam, was market leader in the standard segment of davit systems, such as A-frame and liferaft davits. The company demonstrated substantial growth, particularly in special applications for the Navy and Coast Guard.
NDM primarily operated on the market of ships with equipment fulfilling the requirements of the UN Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). The obligatory annual servicing of the safety equipment by the manufacturer or a party certified by the manufacturer made after-sales services a substantial part of their total business operations.
In 2009, NDM, with approximately 100 employees, achieved nearly EUR 20 million in revenue. The Vietnamese production facility, benefiting from cost advantages and proximity to key markets like China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, has significantly contributed to these revenues.
In 2013, the decision was made to integrate Ned-Deck Marineunder the new company name PALFINGER NED-DECK. In the course of re-branding project 2016 the sub-brand PALFINGER NED-DECK was fully integrated into one strong brand - PALFINGER MARINE.
Dreggen
In 2012, the PALFINGER took over Bergen Group Dreggen AS (Dreggen), headquartered in Bergen, Norway. By the time of the acquisition Dreggen had over 25 years of experience in the market for marine and offshore cranes. Dreggen was strongly positioned on the Norwegian market and supplied renowned international customers. Sales offices in Brazil and Singapore and a global sales and services network ensured that Dreggen was also well-positioned for further growth. In 2011, the company’s 75 employees generated revenue of approx. EUR 30 million.
This acquisition was an important growth step for PALFINGER MARINE’s business to considerably expand their product range. Until 2016 Dreggen operated under the brand name PALFINGER DREGGEN. In the course of re-branding project 2016 the sub-brand PALFINGER Dreggen was fully integrated into PALFINGER MARINE.
Norwegian Deck Machinery (NDM)
In 2015 PALFINGER acquired Norwegian Deck Machinery AS (NDM) and expanded its product portfolio with high deck winches and lifting and handling equipment. NDM, founded in 1989, was headquarted in Os, Norway. By the time of the acquisition, the company already held a prominent market position with its special winches, as well as lifting and handling equipment for offshore vessels, offshore service vessels, and oil rigs.
In the course of the branding project 2016, NDM was fully integrated into one strong brand - PALFINGER MARINE.
Harding
In 2016, the PALFINGER acquired 100 percent of the shares in Herkules Harding Holding AS, namely the globally operating Harding Group headquartered in Seimsfoss, Norway.
With this acquisition, PALFINGER MARINE completed its product range with lifeboats and broadened its portfolio with rescue boats and davit systems. A clear benefit from combining PALFINGER MARINE and Harding is the strengthened position in the service segment. By the time of the acquisition Harding operated a comprehensive service network across 16 countries worldwide.
Along the way Harding has built and acquired several brands, including Schat-Harding, Schat Davits, Schat Watercraft Group, Mulder & Rijke, Beiyang Boatbuilding Co., LAR, Watercraft, Edgewater Machine & Fabricators Inc, Georg Eide Sønner AS, MASECO, William Mills Marine, Davit Systems Holland (DSH), Acta, Viking Marine, Noreq, Noreq Acta, Noreq Fender, Fiskars, Bjorke Batbyggeri and many more. PALFINGER services all these brands.
All brands mentioned above are combined under one strong, global brand - PALFINGER MARINE.
