Mission accomplished: The shark is ready for take-off
The last parts have been covered with fabric, mounted on the flying machine, and checked for airworthiness. The result: We’ve got a flying shark. With the completed construction of the flying machine, the PALFINGER crew has made a precision landing. Because: In just a few days, on 26 September, the Red Bull Flugtag will take place in Vienna!
Perfect time management and optimal use of materials
When asked about how the construction phase went, the entire team agrees:
"Thanks to our detailed planning and preparation, the construction phase was very relaxed. Right from the start, we had a specific idea of what our flying machine should look like, and that definitely worked in our favour."
Another advantage that the team of four benefited from: Colleagues not only showed interest in the construction progress – they did everything in their power to help. Thanks to the support and tips of experts like Christoph Göttlicher, the idea came to life as planned.
The article on the construction phase of the flying machine describes which materials were used and which criteria had to be taken into account regarding airworthiness.
Reduced to the max: Less is more (sustainable)!
The crew’s biggest challenge was being able to stick to the very tight schedule – but the four PALFINGER MARINE experts mastered it with flying colours. For the components of the flying machine, the team placed great emphasis on sustainability and mainly used wood and cotton as well as a particularly environmentally friendly glue. For the latter, they just mixed flour and water – simple yet effective!
Teamwork makes the dream work
Before the flying shark with pilot Lukas on board takes centre stage, the focus is on the team itself. The crew kicks off the spectacle with a one-of-a-kind show intended to lift the spectators’ mood. To not arrive empty-handed, a small souvenir will be attached to the crane. As you can see: The PALFINGER crew has truly thought of everything!
If that doesn't look spectacular! With this unique performance, the PALFINGER crew wants to impress both the audience and the jury.
Speaking of the jury: Among the members are also two familiar faces who have been closely connected to PALFINGER for years. Wondering who we’re talking about? Find out more about the flight experts in question.
Flight destination: Red Bull Flugtag at Brigittenauer Bucht in Vienna
The site of the event is already bustling with activity. The “runway” is being set up, the supporting programme is being prepared, and the jury stand is being positioned. Wherever human strength is not enough, PALFINGER's crawler crane assists with the setup. With its reach of 33 metres, there’s no place it can’t get to.
Two other lifting solutions – the access platform and the truck-mounted forklift – are getting into position as well. At the Red Bull Flugtag on 26 September, they will provide spectators with stunning views and entertainment.
