I am the right person for this job because ...
... I really enjoy events like the Red Bull Flugtag. Especially when the engineer in me is needed. My extensive experience helps me to evaluate the flying machine from a technical standpoint. I think it's good that the jury is made up of people from different departments of the company. Taking different perspectives into account, we are sure to select the right team.
What did you pay particular attention to in your evaluation?
As a first step, I focused on the objective evaluation criteria of the flying machines. These include airworthiness, safety, and compliance with regulations.
The submitted ideas for flying machines were then evaluated with a point system from one to ten, according to the criteria. The sum of all scores resulted in the technical recommendation of the jury.
What does the crew absolutely need to bring to the table?
First and foremost, the crew must demonstrate enthusiasm and show that they are having fun with this particular challenge. Of course, some innovative spirit as well as engineering experience and craftsmanship are also required. Since the crew competes as a team, the overall picture is crucial. This means that not everyone has to be tech-savvy – crew members can take on different roles within the team.
You support the team with your engineering expertise. what kind of assistance can the crew look forward to – how closely will you collaborate with them?
The collaboration will be as close as the team wants it to be. We can support them with a space where they can assemble the flying machine, with tools and/or materials. Of course, our experts will also be available for technical input. Ultimately, I want everything to be very laid-back, and the team should have fun!
What fascinates you about flying, or have you ever sat in the cockpit of an aircraft yourself?
My most exciting flights were the ones where I was allowed to sit in the cockpit or directly behind the pilot. The flights in winter during storms or icy conditions were always the most impressive. Experiencing first-hand how the plane touches down on the runway at the very last moment – that’s an incredible feeling!
What do you think connects palfinger and red bull?
For me, both companies are extremely successful and know how to reach their customers with their products and company concepts. Both Red Bull and PALFINGER evoke emotions in their customers.
