Red Bull Flugtag jury members: Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst
What connects the PALFINGER company and the beach volleyball duo Doppler and Horst? Immense passion for their daily work, an efficient approach to challenges, and the willingness to think outside the box and to try something new. The logical consequence of this: PALFINGER has been accompanying the two passionate athletes on their journey to success for years.
For the event, Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst temporarily leave their familiar environment, the beach volleyball court, and take a seat behind the jury desk at the Red Bull Flugtag. In our interview, the successful duo shares what they look for in the performances and give the PALFINGER crew some valuable tips.
Interview with Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst
- Age: 41 and 38
- Positions: most successful Austrian beach volleyball duo of the past ten years
- Roles at the Red Bull Flugtag: members of the Red Bull Flugtag jury
We are the right ones for this job because ...
... both during volleyball training and matches, we take off for vertical and horizontal flights every day – and land safely again afterwards.
As jury members, what will you pay special attention to at the Red Bull Flugtag?
The combination of creativity and functionality needs to be just right. This applies equally to the flying machine and the performance. Another important criterion for us is that the idea behind everything is immediately recognisable. Ultimately, every team must have its own strategy for how they can win.
In beach volleyball, you are an unbeatable team. what characterises you as a duo? And: how can the palfinger crew impress you?
We have been a team for over a decade and have continuously developed our team play over the years. Today, everything’s well-coordinated. Each of us knows what our partner is thinking and doing, even if we don't see them at a certain moment.
The teams should show similar teamwork at the Red Bull Flugtag: Ideally, the strategy for the performance is immediately recognisable! Whether it then ends in organised chaos is another and hopefully entertaining matter. 😊
Assuming you had the ability to fly, what would be your first destination?
Clemens: I see myself with a good espresso lungo macchiato on the beach of Ostia in Rome. I spent a lot of time there during my beach volleyball career and I always enjoyed my stays there!
Alexander: Definitely Hawaii – for me, that’s paradise on earth! The only drawback is the long flight, which prevents me from travelling there more often. With my superpowers, I would activate the turbo and simply shorten the travel time. 😊
What do you think the ideal crew needs to have?
In our opinion, every team needs a motivated frontman who has the ability to inspire the other team members. The crew as a whole needs to be well-coordinated and ready for action. One look at the faces of the team members should be enough to see their competitive spirit and their will to win.
What advice would you give the PALFINGER crew for their flight?
- Make fun the primary motivation and driving force behind it all!
- On the day of the Red Bull Flugtag, go up there with confidence and full of commitment, take off – and fly!
