... in 42 years of life, I have experienced both highs and lows, so I’m quite familiar with navigating different altitudes, so to speak. I also think my many years of experience have enabled me to judge quite well whether an aircraft has the potential to fly or not.

First and foremost, of course, the flying machine must be airworthy. As an engineer, I also pay attention to compliance with all relevant standards, safety equipment and material specifications. Secondly, the overall impression of the flying machine in terms of creativity and technical finesse is important to me.

The team should carry the PALFINGER brand in their hearts. Combined with some courage to think outside the box and to take some risks, I am sure that the crew can build a promising flying machine. For the Red Bull Flugtag itself, a pair of swimming trunks or a swimsuit might be a good idea.

Overall, my expectations are easy to fulfil. It is important to me that our flying machine has the potential to fly further than the competition and to make the spectators cheer. And of course, the landing should be relatively elegant.

I have actually sat at the controls of a glider before, and that was a very special experience. I also watch the airplanes from my home now and then. Something else I watch with great interest and even greater respect are the base jumpers that hurl themselves off the Drachenwand, a steep rock face, at Lake Mondsee. I think, for humans, that is the closest thing to flying without using an aircraft. It must be an incredible feeling!
