HIGH-TECH AT THE RECYCLING CENTER
The Cologne-based waste disposal specialist relies on innovative Palfinger technology for the selection of its skiploader.
At the 16,000 square meter company site, work continues at full speed even during the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown. Ferrous and non-ferrous metal waste is permanently delivered or collected by trading partners in the metal industry in North Rhine-Westphalia and the surrounding federal states. The recyclable materials are temporarily stored, sorted, shredded, processed and transported.
For all these processes, powerful and reliable vehicles with efficient and ergonomic equipment are essential. One of the latest "players" is a Mercedes-Benz Arocs 2548 equipped with the Palfinger PST18 TEC skiploader.
Efficient and comfortable
Thanks to a permanent contact, Palfinger knows the requirements and needs of its customers. On this basis, the Cologne-based recycling professional was recommended to invest in the latest equipment. The PS T18 TEC skiploader, equipped with three tipping hooks and a hydraulic tipping lock, was mounted on a tri-axle chassis. Thanks to its ergonomic design, the skiploader loads even the most awkwardly positioned containers quickly and accurately.
Giuseppe Di Mauro, the regular driver of the Palfinger skiploader, has been working for the Cologne waste disposal company for ten years and appreciates the user-friendliness and safety of the new equipment: "It is easy to handle, it is faster than its predecessor and I can access all functions with the intuitive radio control. The multi-bucket can be operated exactly as my work requires."
According to the technical "business card", the PS T18 TEC skiploader has a lifting capacity of 18,000 kg telescopic arms in and 12,000 kg telescopic arms out. The arm stroke is 1,400 mm, the width 2,530 mm and the free passage between the arms 2,125 mm. The maximum width of the bucket is 2,000 mm.
Other features include synchronized or individually controlled stabilizers and telescopic arms, bucket locking with the automatic Active-Lock system, three-speed fast work and a fuel-saving engine start-stop function.
The vehicle has a complete external control positioned on the side of the chassis, which works in conjunction with the radio remote control. This allows for a more flexible choice between the two solutions.
In order for the driver to be able to concentrate fully on loading and unloading the tippers, Palfinger places the greatest importance on safety and operating comfort when designing its skip- and hookloaders. The side and rear steps with handholds make it easy to climb onto the platform. In addition, there is a hydraulic container lock, a chain shortener with safety device, an integrated and certified underride bar, an overload warning device and 6 lashing points on the loading platform for securing different loads.
Close communication with the service department
For more than 50 years, the family-owned company Diestelmann-Luther, which is now in its second generation, has been involved in the resource-friendly recycling and processing of steel scrap. A large fleet of vehicles and a stock of more than 200 skips for various uses guarantee reliable logistics.
In order to ensure that the collection and/or delivery of recyclable materials from private customers and companies can be carried out on time and that requests can be met quickly and with full flexibility, the recycling company's vehicles must always be available.
In order to avoid long downtimes due to repairs or even breakdowns, Managing Director Wolfgang Luther attaches great importance not only to the selection of high-quality and durable products, but also to "good communication" with the service department. The cooperation with the local bodybuilder Palfinger Marcus Walter GmbH is running smoothly and efficiently. Solutions tailored to the customer's needs are planned and, if necessary, details for optimizing them are discussed together.
The bodybuilder, based in Cologne-Esch, convinced the family business Diestelmann-Luther of the advantages of Palfinger products and established the first contacts about five years ago. Today, the recycling company has two Palfinger skiploader trucks and a Palfinger hookloader. They are fully satisfied with the performance as well as the advice and service they received before and after the purchase.
